Intricate Beauty of Cappadocia

Search for design inspiration and constant wanderlust takes our Skova girl to Cappadocia and Goreme, other-worldly and ancient districts in east-central Anatolia, Turkey. Sitting on a rugged plateau north of the Taurus Mountains, this is a land of dramatic expanses: fairy-chimney, spires, cones rise from the terrain with valleys and caves. Rock-cut dwellings and churches pepper the mountainsides, and underground tunnel complexes from the Byzantine and Islamic eras are scattered throughout the moonscape of Cappadocia.

The luxe Museum Hotel, Relais and Chateaux’s only Turkish hotel, is her home base for this adventure: a rustic, dreamlike structure with walls carved out of stone. Waking at dawn to the magical, hypnotic and stirring Muslim call to prayer, she opens her mind to soak in all Cappadocia offers: rustic yet complex- flavored cuisine, pottery making, and hot air balloon rides. Radiant colors are the key to her inspiration for Skova’s Cappadocia collection: the early morning cerulean sky is a backdrop for vivid colors of the hot air balloons that rise into the air at dawn when the air is light and the winds are high. She draws further influence from the carpet weavers Goreme, who use time-honored traditions of dyeing and weaving silk threads into complex and intricate designs — all incorporated into this spectacular collection.

Inspiring, dramatic, daring, vivid: our Skova girl puts a little bit of Cappadocia into each whimsically patterned shawl. These stunning shawls bring this magical land to you to wrap around yourself.
