Through the fashion lens with Caroline Vazzana

SKOVA Founder and Designer, Michaela Moryskova sat down with Caroline Vazzana to talk fashion, travel, blogging, and making the transition from INStyle editor to Fashion blogger/book publisher. Check out the photos below as Caroline takes us through her day wearing SKOVA accessories.

1. What made you transition from the editorial world?
After a few years working for various fashion magazines, I was really interested in working for myself. Especially with the social media driven world we live in, I felt that working for myself, I would be able to collaborate with such incredible people and brands that I wouldn’t normally get to do so when tied to just one publication.

2. What was your favorite trend from NYFW?
There were so many, but two trends I’m really excited for are statement ruffles and bright reds.

3. What is your Fall must have accessory?
I think every Fall, it’s important to invest in a good pair of boots. For me, I love a colored leather ankle boot with a thick heel you can actually walk around it.

4.Who was your first style icon?
Growing up, I’d have to say my first style icon was my grandmother. I always loved playing with her jewelry and really admire how elegant she always looked.

5.Who takes the majority of your photos?
It really varies, a lot of my pictures are taken by my friends, but lately I’ve started working a lot with @ivakozeli and @thefestiveanthropolgist, they are the best!

6. What would you say that is the biggest challenge about fashion blogging?
There are so many talented women out there with impeccable taste, so just getting noticed and standing out can be very difficult.

7.How would you describe your personal style and is there a person who is a fashion inspiration to you?
My personal style is feminine but eclectic, and can also be a bit edgy at times. For inspiration, I love looking to Kate Foley and Jenny Walton.

8. What would you say that is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?
I love people’s reactions to my outfits or when my followers ask me for advice. I love talking to them and helping them- when I feel like I’m making a difference that makes me so happy.

9. How active are you on a weekly basis? How often do you communicate with your followers?
I post at least once everyday on Instagram (sometimes 3 or 4 times) and I post regularly on Snapchat and Instagram stories. I am super responsive and love hearing from my followers- so don’t hesitate to reach out!

10. What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?
I think just being yourself, being genuine. Figuring out what message you want to portray and just running with it. I’ve had so many people tell me they first found me through my website and loved the content so that’s why they followed me. I think just being consistent as well so your followers can know what to expect.

11. How often do you travel for pleasure or work, and favorite city you have visited?
I don’t get to travel as much as I would like, but I often take weekend trips out of New York to escape reality. My favorite place I have ever visited was Paris; I hope to go back soon!

12. What is your dream getaway and why?
I would love to go to Italy, I have family there so I’d love to get to meet them and learn all about their lives and culture. Also, the pictures and food would be incredible!

13. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
That’s a hard question, since the fashion industry has changed so much in just the past few years, but hopefully, working for myself and continuing to build MakingManhattan.com . I could also see myself eventually writing a book to put all of my articles in one easy to access place, who knows!
