THREE Ways Traveling Opens Your Mind

If you ever get the opportunity to travel, accept it without hesitation. I MEAN IT! More importantly, try to stay in the same place for long enough to really soak in the culture and open your mind. That is key since you'll spend your time learning instead of stressing out running around to new cities.

Hey y'all! It's Riss, and I'm a fashion and travel blogger over at ItsRiss.com. I'm sharing with you 3 ways traveling opens your mind based on my own experience of moving to Spain for 8 months. Travel completely changed my life, and travel will change yours too!

1. Learn new cultures and meet new people

The most obvious way we learn about new cultures is through talking to locals, learning history, and trying their food. This will vastly expand your mind and experiences. However, this is just only reaching the surface level of how travel can open your mind. Pro tip: If you don't speak the local language, search online for international bars.

2. Challenge yourself to a humbling experience

Have you visited a place where you didn't speak or understand the language? This leaves you the most vulnerable; therefore, giving you the most humbling experience. Personally, I lived in Spain and only spoke and understood very little Spanish. This was extremely humbling and difficult, but I learned so much more than the language. I learned patience, humility, appreciation, and so much more. You start to see the world differently when you're left so vulnerable.

3. Get inspired to do things differently

I lived in Spain for 8 months, and it changed my life in the smallest ways possible. I questioned why it took me until now to see a plate of vegetables as a sufficient meal (sans meat). I questioned why Spain uses exterior rolling blinds, but here in New Orleans (frequented by hurricanes), we do not. I questioned how Spaniards eat so late everyday and live life care-free. Why they don’t let work affect them when they get home. How they find the beauty in day-to-day life. All of these small curiosities have changed my life in some way.
