The Importance of Community Over Competition

Throughout the past year, the phrase, “community over competition” has become increasingly popular. But what does this even mean? In short, this phrase is meant to serve as a reminder to all of us; that in order to be successful and achieve what you ultimately want to do, you need to support those around you working just as hard. By lifting others up, we also rise. 

Today’s society is very focused on individual success. We have become obsessed with what everyone else has accomplished, in turn judging our own accomplishments rather than celebrating BOTH journeys. It is so easy to get caught up in the mindset that we are behind or underachieving when we start to compete and compare with others. So how do we combat this downward spiral society has created? We come together. 

Community is ESSENTIAL to a balanced and healthy life. By coming together, we create a safe environment where people can feel supported, energized, nourished, listened to, recognized, validated, loved and protected. Community helps keep you accountable. It helps to push you out of your comfort zone. Joining forces, creates a positive energy that catalyzes creative momentum. Community can help you push past fears and start before you are ready. Sometimes all we need is to know that there is a group of people out there that supports you and your dreams, no matter how big or small. Now let’s touch on the competition side of things. Not all competition is bad. It is great to want to be the best at something, but when the competition turns into comparison, things start to take a turn for the worst. We can actually learn a lot from our “competition”. These are the people that have the same passion and determination that you do! Learn from their mistakes and successes. As they will do the same with you. It all circles back around to supporting one another and encouraging the journey of each dream and dreamer.
